Some auto manufacturers in India are urging the government to issue the licenses required to import certain tires from China, based on a report in the local press. The import of tires into India has been officially restricted since June 2020, when the government announced restrictions on imports of pneumatic tires, two-wheeler tires, commercial vehicle tires, bus tires and bicycle tires. The measure is intended to support domestic tire manufacturers and to prevent the dumping of cheap imports. $260.72 million worth of tires were imported into India in the April to February 2019-20 period.
Following the amendment, any importer who wants these specific types of tires from outside India needs to get a license from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
Now, auto manufacturers in the country claim that while they have been granted licenses to import certain high-performance tires meant for vehicles to be exported, they have been unable to get licenses for tires on vehicles to be sold in India. They point out that these high-performance tires are not manufactured in the country and without them, they are unable to sell the vehicles.
Media reports say these claims are being refuted by government officials, who insist that licences are being issued to a number of people and that a segment of the high-performance motorcycles, which are marketed in India, are now being equipped with domestically-sourced (as opposed to imported) Metzeler tires.
Mr. Rajiv Budhraja, director general of ATMA (Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association) explained that the high-performance tires in question have to be imported since they are not manufactured locally due to low demand. Due to standardised suppliers, some local units are required to import components like tires from pre-specified suppliers, he said

இந்தத் திருத்தத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து, இந்தியாவுக்கு வெளியில் இருந்து இந்த குறிப்பிட்ட வகை டயர்களை விரும்பும் எந்தவொரு இறக்குமதியாளரும் வெளிநாட்டு வர்த்தக இயக்குநரகம் (டிஜிஎஃப்டி) உரிமம் பெற வேண்டும்.
இப்போது, நாட்டில் உள்ள வாகன உற்பத்தியாளர்கள், ஏற்றுமதி செய்ய வேண்டிய வாகனங்களுக்கு ஏற்ற சில உயர் செயல்திறன் கொண்ட டயர்களை இறக்குமதி செய்வதற்கான உரிமங்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டாலும், இந்தியாவில் விற்கப்பட வேண்டிய வாகனங்களின் டயர்களுக்கான உரிமங்களைப் பெற முடியவில்லை என்று கூறுகின்றனர். அதிக செயல்திறன் கொண்ட இந்த டயர்கள் நாட்டில் தயாரிக்கப்படுவதில்லை என்றும் அவை இல்லாமல் வாகனங்களை விற்க முடியவில்லை என்றும் அவர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகின்றனர்.
இந்த அறிக்கைகள் அரசாங்க அதிகாரிகளால் மறுக்கப்படுவதாக ஊடக அறிக்கைகள் கூறுகின்றன, அவர்கள் பலருக்கு உரிமங்கள் வழங்கப்படுவதாகவும், இந்தியாவில் விற்பனை செய்யப்படும் உயர் செயல்திறன் கொண்ட மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்களின் ஒரு பகுதி இப்போது உள்நாட்டில் மூலமாக பொருத்தப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும் வலியுறுத்துகின்றனர் ( இறக்குமதி செய்யப்படுவதற்கு மாறாக) மெட்ஸெலர் டயர்கள்.
குறைந்த தேவை காரணமாக உள்நாட்டில் உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படாததால், கேள்விக்குரிய உயர் செயல்திறன் கொண்ட டயர்கள் இறக்குமதி செய்யப்பட வேண்டும் என்று ஏடிஎம்ஏ (தானியங்கி டயர் உற்பத்தியாளர்கள் சங்கம்) இயக்குநர் ஜெனரல் திரு. ராஜீவ் புத்ராஜா விளக்கினார். தரப்படுத்தப்பட்ட சப்ளையர்கள் காரணமாக, முன்னரே குறிப்பிட்ட சப்ளையர்களிடமிருந்து டயர்கள் போன்ற கூறுகளை இறக்குமதி செய்ய சில உள்ளூர் அலகுகள் தேவைப்படுகின்றன, என்றார்
